Publisher's summary

No stranger to fear since meeting the unhuman Inspector Hobbes, Andy Caplet fears getting fired from his reporting job (again). His main concern, though, is a shady property developer who has designs on Sorenchester Common, and more annoyingly on his wife.

Perhaps a trip to the mountains will help him relax, but this proves even more perilous with foul weather, inedible food, brigands, and a terrifying cruise. Fortunately, mountain leopards, Yetis and Flossy, the yak, take a shine to Andy.

Back in the Cotswolds, a child gets murdered and a new detective takes on the case. When Hobbes returns, he (with Andy’s dubious assistance) is relegated to hunting an enormous bird with killer feet. Meanwhile, Andy still worries about the common and the reclusive Common People (surely not Yetis?), who will lose their homes if the housing development goes ahead.

This is the fifth in Wilkie Martin’s unhuman series of cozy comedy crime fantasies.

Solid entry for the series.

Consistent cozies with a supernatural twist. Hobbes is solid in this entry if a bit underused. Daphne definitely needs more time on the page. Andy seems to be developing a bit more self-awareness without sacrificing the bumbling contrast he provides for the more competent characters.

I love this series!

This is a wonderful series to listen to. The story is entertaining and I love the interaction between the characters. Andy is hilarious with his constant clumsiness and getting injured in the most unusual ways.
Inspector Hobbs always comes to the rescue though and the other characters add flavor as well.
I just wish Wilkie could write faster. Lol

I wish more people in the world were like Hobbes

Poor clumsy Andy. I can definitely relate to him. I really enjoyed this series. The performance was excellent, the story kept me interested. Hobbes' demeanor was always right on point. The 'voices' of each character and descriptions of them, let me easily picture them in my imagination. This would be an amazing series or movie to watch if the correct actors were chosen for each role. I hope there's more books!

I Love Hobbes!

This is the best yet! Wilkie Martin is a master at weaving mystery with quirky and comedic fantasy. Hobbes is a gentle (usually) giant who saves the day.

Nice series - a bit of fluff, some quirk, a mystery, and adventures with Andy.

So glad to catch up with Andy and Hobbs

and the old girl, too. A wonderful romp with some of the most original and lovable characters. Thanks for continuing the story, and to Tim Campbell for his incredible narration.

A++

I sighed up for Audible's free trial just so I could listen to this faster. Tim Cambell is a marvelous actor, with an incredible voice and the story was as engaging and entertaining as ever.

It's always a good time returning to The Cotswolds and catching up with Hobbes and friends. I won't spoil anything, as I hate spoilers myself, but I do hope we get to see more of Daphne in future installations. Her thrill for adventure ans roll woth the punches attitude is a nice change of pace.

Excellent audio book exceptionally well narrated

I enjoyed every page. I listen while working out and while taking a shower. I rather wish the books were a bit longer. I would like this series to go on for some considerable time.

Seemingly shorter, maybe due to 5y wait?

Still loving the stories! Hobbes, the (literally) strong and silent type; Andy, sort of a hero, sort of a push-over, still a bit of a goof, but an all-around good person; and Daphne, the sensible strong woman that loves Andy. This tale didn't include many of the original characters, since Andy and Daphne got married and moved out of Hobb's house.
And the story seemed a little disjointed, moving from Yetis in the mountains to not-Yetis in Sorenchester - to me, it didn't flow as smoothly as the first four books did. Not to say I didn't enjoy it, it just seemed... shorter then the prior books. Maybe it was the 5 year gap between the books? Hopefully we won't have to wait as long for book 6!!

Entertaining Series

I am thoroughly enjoying this series.

Not sure how I found it but it has been most delightful.

Lots of action, danger, and human.

Each individual character adds depth to the story.

Tim Campbell brings these stories to life!
